Tasking

The key areas for which MRI has declared emergency response resources are:
  • open sea emergency response
  • coastal cliff and shoreline emergency response
  • inland waterway emergency response
  • flood response

In addition, MRI may support a major incident response if requested but it is not within our jurisdiction to specifically co-ordinate or investigates the possibility of these. However, plausible events for which there may be regional contingency plans and with which MRI may become involved with are:

  • Serious incident at sea involving either passing container ship, passenger ferry or towed oil platform.
  • Offshore or coastal chemical or oil slick.
  • Fire onboard ship containing chemicals or oil.
  • Helicopter or aeroplane ditched or crashed on land or at sea.
  • Serious flood event.
