Operational Area

As an efficient crew we need to know more than just the visual aspects of a site.

MRI has a declared SAR resource (commanded by the Marine Coastguard Agency) for:

waterborne emergency response on the coast, seaward to 60 nautical miles from MRI base and on inland waterways.

The area is delineated north and south by the overlap of Aberdeen and Montrose RNLI stations. The coastal sea area, in normal operational circumstances, is bounded by Findon Ness to the North and Gourdon to the South. The inland waterway area includes entire catchment areas of the smaller rivers and particular incident sites on River Dee to the North and River North Esk to the South. Aberdeen airport and heliport and Aberdeen and Montrose sea ports were included in the operational analysis to take account of major incidents which could occur within Stonehaven designated SAR area as traffic makes way, or leaves these points.
