MRI Stonehaven Lifeboats
Commitment, Dedication, Compassion, Training...
Day or night, every day
of the year, our volunteers are prepared to respond to the coastguard
in order to prevent the loss of life.
It is not always possible to prevent the loss of life but there
is sometimes a family on shore desperately waiting for word…

10 January 2007
At 3.45pm on Wednesday, 10th January two sea anglers, fishing off Stonehaven
pier, saw a low-flying small aircraft fly across the bay and out to sea,
before descending into the water. The anglers swiftly reported their
sighting to the Maritime Rescue Institute who dispatched MRI42 to start the
search. The MRI team was given a search area by the Forth Coastguard. As
darkness fell MRI28 joined the search but to no avail, and at 6.30pm they
returned to base.
Nothing was found in the search area, and the police have not been notified
of any missing aircraft, but the anglers did the responsible thing reporting
their sighting to MRI.
Whether the aircraft was perhaps remote-controlled or an aerial surveillance
tool is unknown. What exactly the anglers saw remains a mystery ...
