Safety Boat course

Preparation: safety equipment; assistance with race management; crew communication.

Boat handling and manoeuvres: positioning in respect to fleet; standing off another craft; coming alongside under way; dinghy (including high performance) and windsurfer rescue; towing; mark laying.

Theory and background: rescue of other water users; communication; VHF; first aid.

Shorebased Basic Navigation and Safety Theory Course – provides an introduction to the basic skills required before taking a small boat to sea o taking an active part in running a boat as crew. Syllabus – Charts, publications and terms; bouyage; navigation; safety; anchoring; tides; electronic navigation; rules of the road; weather forecasts; pilotage; passage planning. 14 hour minimum course.

Shorebased Day Skipper Theory Course – a comprehensive introduction to chart work, navigation, meteorology, and the basics of seamanship for Helmsmen. You will find this course invaluable if you want to learn how to start making decisions on board. Syllabus – nautical terms; rope work; anchor work; safety; international regulations for preventing collisions at sea; definition of position, course and speed; navigational charts and publications; navigational drawing instruments; compass; chartwork; tides and tidal streams; visual aids to navigation; meteorology; passage planning; navigation in restricted visibility; pilotage; marine environment. 40 hours minimum course.
