Day or night, every day of the year, our volunteers are prepared to respond

to the coastguard in order to prevent the loss of life.

It is not always possible to prevent the loss of life but there is sometimes a family on shore desperately waiting for word…

It is MRI's primary objective to do everything they can do make sure that anything that can be done to save a life is the done.

450/ May 2009 Request by Forth Coastguard to go to the assistance of 2 youths believed to be down the rocks at Downie Point. SE 3/4 /Slight Moderate 2/0 The incident was on the rocks known as Brackens in Stonehaven Bay. MRI 28 proceeded towards the two boys who had became stranded by the tide.They were taken onboard and taken to safety.
449/ May 2009 Upturned dingy spotted by one of MRI Coxswains. Dingy 'Muddy' had capsized with its two crew clinging to the upturned boat. SE 4/Moderate swell 2/0 Both men were taken onboard MRI 28 appearing to suffer from mild hypothermia. Crew clothing was used to shelter them and returned to the base as soon as possible. Ambulance crew arrived afterwards and took them to hospital.
448/ May 2009 18' Gold Crest Yacht was drifting quickly towards the reefs at the North side of Stonehaven Harbour. SE 5/Choppy 0/0 MRI 24 and 28 towed the yacht to out of danger. The yacht's engine developed troubles.
447/ April 2009 MRI alerted by Forth Coastguard to possible call out to reports of a vessel or small craft apparently in difficulties in Stonehaven bay. NE 4/Moderate with hazy visibility 0/0 This was a false alarm with good intent and the crew were allowed to stand down.
446/ April 2009 The yacht 'Freedom' drifting without power, south of Dunnotar Castle. NE 4/Moderate with hazy visibility 1/0 Found yacht, exhausted member of yacht taken onboard MRI 28. Towed yacht to Stonehaven harbour.
445/ April 2009 Incident involved 20 youths who were on dry land. Informed by police. Southerly 6/Moderate with poor visibilty 0/0 MRI 42 was about to leave the harbour when Forth Coastguard informed that there was no longer a requirement and to stand down.
