Volunteer Fundraiser positions with MRI Background: Locally, Maritime Rescue Institute provides waterborne emergency response (Search and Rescue) for the Kincardineshire area. This service is enabled by the provision of 2 lifeboats and the continuous training of 20 local volunteers who form the Search and Rescue (SAR) Team. The charity has recently started the development of a Youth Search and Rescue Team in order to address two issues: firstly, getting the safety and environment awareness messages out to the youth in our area through the youths themselves and, secondly, whilst giving these young adults life learning skills and allowing them to have fun whilst doing so, addressing the loss of inherent skills and coastal familiarity. Internationally, the charity provides practical training and education, offers support worldwide to progress water safety initiatives and helps in all aspects of development in regions with minimum resources i.e. the setting up of waterborne Search and Rescue in Lake Victoria, Uganda, regeneration of tsunami affected coastal fishing communities in Sri Lanka and help to further lifeboat stations and training in Egypt. MRI has a high profile and maintains good public relations along with being a very visual group because of its role in performing local rescues. These are volunteer positions, with reimbursement of actual expenses incurred. Contact: Ann Laing, (MRI Administrator), Tel: 01569 765768 or Email: ann.laing@btconnect.com
