Stonehaven Harbour Festival 2008

A great family day out at Stonehaven Harbour,
Sunday 17 August,
from noon until 4.30 pm

Harbour Festival 2007

On Sunday 17 August, Stonehaven Harbour will come alive with stalls, boats and activities for all the family as the annual Harbour Festival takes place.

Stonehaven Pipe Band at 2007 Harbour FestivalThe festival will be opened at 12 noon by yachtsman Adrian Flanagan who on 31st of May completed the first single handed ‘vertical’ circumnavigation of the world in his 40ft yacht Barrabas. It took him 405 days and he travelled almost 31,000 miles in total. His route involved sailing down past the Falklands, then west around Cape Horn. He then headed to Hawaii before turning northeast and sailing onto Nome, Alaska where he spent the winter. From there he sailed over the top of Russia through the North Sea route avoiding icebergs to Norway, before making the last leg of his journey south towards England.  His journey was not without danger the currents and sailing into prevailing winds around Cape Horn saw him capsize twice. Add in being washed overboard without a safety line and being stalked by pirates for two days off the coast of Brazil it’s easy to see he’ll have plenty of stories to tell and we are delighted to have him with us for the day.

MRI 42 at the 2007 Harbour FestivalMRI has lined up another festival full of demonstrations throughout the day including a seafood cookery demonstration from Robert Cleaver the owner of the Carron Restaurant and displays from the Trossachs Search and Rescue dogs, HM Coastguard, the Stonehaven Pipeband and many more…

Entertainment will include traditional music, plenty of stalls to browse, games to play, and lots of entertainment for children including a climbing wall, a giant inflatable slide, a puppet theatre, story tellers and the usual lucky dip, face painting, scoop a duck and tombola. At the Tolbooth Museum children can have fun learning how to weave, on top of all this the HM Coastguard also have fun and games in store for the youngsters.

Rescue! 2007 Harbour FestivalStonehaven Yacht Club will ensure everyone has their fill of teas & coffees, plus strawberries, while the Lions Club will provide the burgers. The Stonehaven Allotment Society will be offering a selection of vegetarian barbeque goodies.

As usual, Ian Watson will be providing boat trips on the Lady Gail.

All of this in the picturesque setting of Stonehaven Harbour - all we need now is the weather.
