MRI is a Scottish charity (SC032388). MRI provides the 24-hour service covering the waterborne search and rescue requirements for the Kincardineshire area. It depends almost entirely on voluntary contributions and funding for its income.

Charity Objective

Maritime Rescue Institute (MRI ) is a Scottish charity, based in Stonehaven, which is committed to facilitating the enhancement of safety and rescue of persons in a water environment. The stated objective of the charity is: “to promote and advance the education of the public in maritime rescue,". This objective includes, but is not restricted to rescue of individuals, boats, helicopters and aircraft in distress, in the waters within and surrounding Scotland and elsewhere, either independently and/or in association with Local Authorities, public sector agencies, non-governmental organisations, voluntary organisations and others.

Services to the Community

Over the past thirty years, representatives of MRI have been involved in the development and undertaking of numerous waterborne emergency response advisory/training programmes relating to inland waterways and maritime waterborne emergency response programmes, being carried out either from the Stonehaven base or in situ with the end user.
MRI will utilise all its in-house proven knowledge, experience and coupled to available external support to deliver the highest possible standard of service to the widest possible community.
 
MRI’s services to the community will include assistance in the:
• development and provision of waterborne search and rescue response resources;
• development and provision of initial and ongoing advisory/training programmes, and
• identification and running of research and development projects.
