Christmas cards painted by north-east artists
MRI have launched a festive range of Christmas cards painted by north-east artists which are now on sale.
Kathleen Buchan and Hazel McAllister met the MRI team as part of North East
Open Studio when they were made welcome in the MRI head-quarters at the Old
Pier in Stonehaven. When they were asked to donate a picture, the artists
were happy to help. They could donate anything as long as it had a
Christmas feel to it. Both artists painted brand new work inspired by the festive season in Stonehaven.

Hazel McAllister set her work in Dunnottar Woods, an image which depicts the perfect, bright snowy day for taking a walk in the forest.

Kathleen Buchan used the approach road into the town for inspiration and
created 'Nestled in for Winter' which features the key focal points you see
when you arrive in Stonehaven. The inclusion of snow, warm lights, dark
skies and a fir tree gave it a Christmas feel. She said, 'MRI were so good
allowing us to use their premises for NEOS, and it's only when you're there
that you see how much work they do. I was pleased to help in any way'.

Also for sale at MRI is a fun Christmas card featuring MRI characters Rory and Ropey, created by Inverness- based artist Helene Bost.
The cards cost £2.50 for a pack of five and they are available from the MRI
building at Stonehaven harbour, or you can phone 01569 765768 or email
enquiry.mri@btconnect.com to place an order.
The two paintings by Kathleen Buchan and Hazel McAllister will be put under the hammer in a charity auction next year.
